Personal Assistant → Private Aviation: the fit is usually a hybrid role.
PAs already know FBOs, handlers and private-flight logistics — sometimes better than airline candidates. The pure cabin-attendant role is not the natural fit. A hybrid one often is.
Recognised from day one.
- Anticipation is the core of the FA job — preparing what the guest will ask for before they ask. It is also the core of yours.
- You already know FBOs, handlers and the specific constraints of private-flight travel, often at a level a first-year FA hasn't reached.
- Absolute discretion around private life, held over years, in complex family configurations — an operator-critical trait.
- Managing multiple time zones and constant plan changes without visible strain — the exact rhythm of a corporate cabin.
The gap, named honestly.
- You are not in hands-on service. Serving, plating, reheating and clearing are not part of your daily job — and this is the main gap to close, not soften.
- You have never worked inside a cabin or under safety constraints. The technical layer starts from zero.
- The classic single-FA role may not suit you best. Hybrid positions — an FA on an owner's aircraft with a coordination component, or a crew role that also handles the principal's travel logistics — usually align more directly with what you already do.
- You have never spent hours in the same three metres as the principal. Continuous physical presence is a discipline the PA world builds remotely, not next to.
The PA transition rewards patience and targeting. Applying to every operator as a standard FA candidate rarely works. Targeting owner-flown aircraft, family offices with a fleet, or coordinator roles inside operators — where your logistics muscle is a differentiator — works far better. Realistic path: five to nine months with a much narrower application list than the other household profiles.
Note — Hybrid FA-plus-coordination roles do exist in practice, but their availability is uneven. Confirm the current market before positioning around them.
